Have you ever…?
Use Have you ever…? questions to ask about life experiences:
Have you ever been to the USA?
ever and never
You often use ever with present perfect questions. It means ‘at any time’ in the past. Never means ‘at no time’.
A: Have you ever eaten sushi?
B: No, never.
been and gone
Use been to talk about a place you went to but you are back now:
I’ve been to the USA three times.
Use gone to talk about a person who is away and hasn’t returned yet:
He’s gone to the USA.
|
The present perfect and the past simple talk about the past. | |
| With the past simple you know (or say) when the action happened. | ||
| I‘ve been to Florida.
I went to Florida last year. |
